One of the current youngest adult vampires, although he tends to act rather childlike at times. Born during a period where his kind were struggling to have any offspring or keep them alive, he was one of the few children born at the time who managed to actually survive the period; which resulted in present day Merel being one of if not the current youngest adult vampire. Which has both its upsides & downsides. While some in his homeland praise & spoil him for managing to survive through the difficult times he'd been born into & being their youngest adult vampire, somewhat viewing him as a child still despite being grown, others scoff at him & still see him as only that; a child, naive with no direction or idea what he's doing because he's only ever been spoiled.

Merel tends to have trouble befriending others because of this too, as most of his people aren't super interested in befriending & socializing with a vampire so much younger than them that most of them still thinks of as a kid. While Merel also has no one else his age he can talk to because very few vampires born in his period had survived up to now, leaving him lonely but used to it.

In his teen years, he met Octavius; a rare Starrvamp, an intelligent fellow with knowledge of many things including alchemy, which Merel had been finding an interest in. Merel grew to admire Octavius quickly, & pleaded to become his apprentice; which Octavius ended up accepting & began to teach Merel all about alchemy, as he could tell the teen could accomplish great things if given the right guidance.

While smart, Merel is also childish; he is prone to freak outs & tantrums when he fails or when something doesn't go as planned, even just his precious mandrake garden not yielding as much as expected. Octavius does have some trouble with him occasionally because of this, as managing actual children is one thing; managing a manchild is another story.
