His mother loved birds, and they'd walk in the forest and she'd teach him their calls. He came out as transmasc when he was 12, and his mother helped him come up with the name Birdsong half a year before she died of cancer. After her death, Birdsong spent even more time in the woods behind his house, teaching himself more about birds and other animals in her memory and also trying to find a place to really grieve where its dad wouldn't yell at him for irrational things.
