Delilah, like all temple children, was raised to fear their goddess, Veysha, and her word.
Unlike most temple children, however, Delilah was trained to interpret Veysha's word, which was said to be manifested in rainbow light refractions.
Delilah had always been observant and perceptive, and was said to be blessed in a way only a few in her generation were. This so called "blessing" became a golden cage for her, limiting her freedom and just opportunity for any sort of normal childhood. She became quiet and composed, because approval is... conditional. That much was clear.
She was the perfect apprentice, that was, until she met a certain Aldarian boy. Feran. He was reckless, audacious, and downright annoying. And yet, he didn't treat her as sacred, not as important, not as fragile. Just like a girl. Someone who existed beyond her role and service.
That alone hooked her. She was done for.
But this was a... nobody. Some random messager boy. It would never be permitted. And Delilah found that she didn't care. She knew it was foolish. It WAS foolish. She could never be with Feran, not really, not beyond stolen moments. But Feran was confident enough for the two of them. Surely that would be enough. It would be fine.
It wasn't.
