Susie was born to Baron Sylvester Gale and his wife Sakura Gale. Her mother died shortly after childbirth, so Sylvester raised Susie as his one and only heir, just as someone might have raised a son in her time.

When Susie was six years old, Sylvester invited the recently orphaned Cassidy Goth into their home, a boy only a couple years older than Susie, as her father had been friends with the boys estranged mother and figured he would be a suitable playmate for the girl while he was away on business.

Cassidy, nicknamed Steamboat by Sylvester, and Susie became fast friends, growing up together and falling in love as teenagers. After the death of her father at the age of sixteen, the two grew even closer, as Steamboat considered Sylvester the only true father figure he had. (They did not consider themselves siblings.)

At this young age, Susie had to take over her father's business and run it alone for several years while Steamboat was away at college. When he came back, the two grew even more infatuated with each other now as young adults and properly became lovers.

Susie eventually met Allison and Florence and included them both in her business. Allison built safe machines for the employees to use and Florence helped design pre-made clothing- something novel and not common for the time.

in 1870 Susie became pregnant with Reznor and her and Steamboat were quickly married and she gave birth in London on November 2nd to their only child and son.

After the duel in which Steamboat killed Allison, their relationship started to weaken until the two of them became separated unofficially when Reznor was an adult. They eventually rekindled their love and lived the rest of their lives together.
