Monsters, (A species created artificially by sorcerers using magic) are often shunned by society in many places. Many people were angry at the sorcerers for creating beings with souls, specifically designed for servitude. Thinking this was unethical, or using this as an excuse to get rid of sorcerers, people rebelled against them and fought for monsters to have rights rather than being reduced to animals/objects as they were originally designed to be. After the sorcerers were defeated, the problem of monsters remained. Some still believed they had no souls, and others were just plain afraid of them. Monsters were designed to be larger and stronger than most humans, to be useful for manual labor. They also had heads, designed off of common objects, to differentiate and reduce them to a “less human” state. These two factors often result in other intelligent species fearing and shunning them, even after everyone fought a war for their freedom.

Many years after the monster war, a young monster named Chester loses his mother to the plague, the one guiding light in his life. Chester lives on the streets, stealing money and food, surrounded by those who will follow him, not because they love him, but because they fear him. Chester uses his terrifying face an abnormal height to his advantage to intimidate other street rats into joining him, until one day he sets out to sea and makes his legacy as the Caribbean’s most feared and ruthless pirate. Through all this time, Chester isn’t happy. He started this all just to survive, but it wasn’t long until it snowballed into a legacy he couldn’t escape. He can’t just walk away because he wants to. No matter where he’d go, people would recognize him as the horrible person he is, or merely fear him for his general looks. No escape.
