Szilas grew up during the Great War of Bonds. One day his family was found by the Knights of the Great Coven, which ended in his mother being burned at the stake as an "unbound" witch. His older brother, Amyr, was brought to Hexstadt by the guards because he was found to have magical powers like his mother. So only little Szilas and his grandmother remained, with whom he lived alone from then on.

A few years later, he voluntarily went to Hexstadt alone to reveal himself as a witch. There, like his brother Amyr, he is accepted as the youngest student at the University of the Coven. During his time in Hexstadt, Szilas honors the old ways, which his grandmother taught him. It did not go unnoticed by the other students. He often gets into fights and is an easy target for teasing since he is always alone.

As a young adult, he is banished from the university and Hexstadt forever as a result of a series of misdemeanors. From now on he lives under the name "Fane" to go into hiding.
