Sorya is the only child of Darya and Nasser, a loyalist and Kestrel under the tyrannical Carja king, Jiran. Her mother, Darya, had doubts about Jiran's brutal rule, which influenced Sorya. When Sorya publicly criticized Jiran, her father was ordered to discipline her or face the Sunring. Nasser, furious and fearful, violently separated Sorya from her mother and conscripted her into the Carja army.

Growing up under harsh discipline, Sorya learned to obey Jiran's regime until his death at Avad's hands. Following Jiran's fall, Sorya and Nasser joined the Shadow Carja, led by Helis and later the Eclipse. Isolated from her mother, Sorya found solace only in Anash, a bandit her age. Witnessing Aloy's victory in a Sunring battle inspired Sorya to change her path.

Helis, sensing her wavering loyalty, forced Sorya into a deadly confrontation with her father. In a fierce battle, she killed Nasser, who expressed pride in her for the first time as he died. This was the final breaking point for Sorya. She faked her death and fled to Meridian, where she pleaded with Avad for mercy and offered valuable intel on the Eclipse.

Leaving Anash behind without explanation, he felt deeply betrayed, struggling with the loss of his only companion. His grief turned to bitterness, leading him down a darker path. When he eventually discovered Sorya's deception, their reunion was fraught with tension, and they parted ways as foes.

Sorya adjusted to life in Meridian, hunting machines for a living and aiding the Carja, while wrestling with her past guilt. She also sought to reconnect with her mother but hesitated to reveal her dark past. Her curiosity about the Old Ones and HADES led her to meet Meril, a Banuk seeker. Their shared quest for answers bonded them, and they became partners, aiding the resistance against rogue AI and the Eclipse in support of Aloy.

Post-Battle of the Alight, Sorya and Meril's relationship blossomed as they explored their feelings amidst the relative calm.
