On the outside, Skirven seems like your typical city; towering buildings, bustling streets. The citizens live normal lives.
But if you look closer, the illusion begins to unravel. Shadows move just out of sync, nights are a little too dark. Its people are twisted into something not quite human; the creatures that have been sewn into their very being, puppets to be controlled and called shadows, have altered their appearances, resulting in Skirvenians with freakish traits derived from the fiends they’re attached to.
At the center of it all is the Umbris Church. Its founder, a cunning man named Diego Darning, pedaled the message that Skirvenians were saved by an entity called the Puppeteer; a towering, eldritch being in charge of keeping shadows in line. It’s believed that before its intervention, shadows attacked Skirvenians at will, and the Puppeteer is to thank for their safety.
Emmet Witherstitch has always noticed something off about his city. However, due to a horrid secret he must keep at all costs, he didn't investigate any of the odd sightings in the newspaper. All he wants to do is sit in his apartment and doodle the weird creatures he sees slinking around the alleyways.
However, after a few too many people start going missing, he decides to take it upon himself to figure out who's pulling the strings.
