Midilyen, a young Fetchling, grew up in a lakeside fishing village with her brother, Khoran, raised by their fetchling mother and azer father. Khoran's protective nature shielded Midilyen's shy demeanor as they navigated childhood alongside their friends. When Khoran came of age, he left to work in another country, however, tragedy struck 2 years later, when their father passed, and financial strain hit their family. Despite Khoran's absence abroad, he sent back increased funds, arousing suspicion. Meanwhile, Midilyen delved into magic secretly, learning from discarded spellbooks and engaging with an enigmatic entity offering arcane knowledge in exchange for a favor.

As tensions rose, Midilyen's mother urged her to confront Khoran, leading to a fateful encounter in his guard duty in a bandit-infested area. A stray bullet claimed Khoran's life, leaving Midilyen bereft and vulnerable. Seizing the opportunity, the entity trying to sway her promised her the power to resurrect Khoran if Midilyen aided in freeing an imprisoned god by accessing forgotten temples. Driven by grief and hope, Midilyen embarked on her quest, unaware that by doing the demon's bidding, she would eventually become a goddess herself.
