When the world ended, it didn't die--it changed.
When the earth split open and magic bled from its core, an event known as the Reconvergence reshaped everything. The remnants of modern human civilization have since faded into myth, its monuments swallowed by the ruins as relics of a distant past. The world has been reborn from ruin. From the ashes rose the Beastfolk--creatures of tooth, claw, wit, and will inheriting a world humans once ruled.
Now, centuries later, the two races coexist uneasily. Magic has replaced machine, and cities of fur and flesh stand beside a mirror of the past. Humans struggle to reclaim their lost glory, while the beastfolk fight to define their place in the new order,
But rumors spread like wildfire: a doomsday cult devoted to "divine renewal" seeks to summon a meteor to crash into the planet--an act of cleansing meant to erase imperfection itself-- believing that only total destruction can purify the world.
In the middle of it all, Zacku, a scrappy young tanuki with more attitude than sense. When he finds a mysterious wand in the woods, he thinks it's his ticket to his destiny of becoming a hero. But being the world's nicest jerk isn't exactly what you expect from one, especially when the wand belongs to a near-immortal wizard, and it is, in fact, very, very cursed.
Joined by Nivii, an impossibly happy frog who sees the good in everyone, and Pipio, a battle-worn mercenary haunted by his past, the three set out on their quest for glory, and the fragile meaning of "good" in a world rebuilt from the bones of the old.
Oh, and the meteor? They'll figure that out along the way.

(I'm working on a prequel for this story if you're interested! It's a collaborative world focused on events thousands of years ago, the beginning of the Reconvergence, called The World at its End. :DD
